Rachael Turski

Writer, Journalist

I am a Columbia College graduate with experience working at Crain's Chicago Business (Advertising Age Magazine) as a temporary research assistant. I am also a copy editor for Cabinet Maker FDM Magazine and a blogger for DowntownChicagoRealEstate.com. I supervised for six years at Starbucks Coffee, and that combined with my current experience in the field of journalism has taught me the importance of accuracy, fairness and deadlines. While I worked at Starbucks, I managed, trained, and utilized inventory programs on deadline, each night, making sure every cleaning task and stocking task was completed before we locked the doors. There, I considered it important to create a fun environment where all of my partners where treated with respect and dignity, but I also made sure each beverage was impeccably crafted to standard and taste, which I also apply to my career as an editor and writer because I am willing to edit a manuscript many times until the job is done, until there are virtually no errors. I love working with a team, but I also work well independently. I have a deeply-rooted passion for journalism and writing. My major at Columbia College was magazine journalism, with a minor in creative nonfiction writing, so I have been trained in both news writing, editing and narrative journalism. However, I also have experience reporting, interviewing, copy editing and designing a spread. Graduated: May 19, 2013 cum laude 3.79 GPA
